- Stay hydrated in the week leading up to your appointment, especially on the day of your treatment.
- Don’t consume alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before your appointment, as it can increase bleeding and bruising.
- Smoking can negatively affect your microneedling results; avoid smoking, vaping, and all nicotine products for at least 48 hours before your appointment.
- Use gentle skincare products and avoid products that contain retinol, vitamin A, or other acids.

What to Expect During Your Microneedling Treatment in Charlotte, NC
Microneedling treatments are simple and quick in-office procedures that are typically well-tolerated. Once you arrive at the office, you will be taken to a treatment room to meet with your provider to review your treatment details. If you are concerned about pain, our providers can offer medications to help you relax and can use ProNox during treatment. What to Expect After Your Microneedling Treatment
Immediately following your microneedling treatment, you may experience a mild sunburn-like redness and slight swelling, which should resolve within a few hours to days. Dr. Rostan may recommend over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol to alleviate any discomfort. With minimal downtime, patients can resume most normal activities following the treatment.
After your microneedling session, our skin experts will provide thorough instructions. As sweat may irritate the skin, avoid strenuous exercise or other activities that can cause sweating for 24 to 48 hours. Keep your skin moisturized and stay hydrated. Protect your skin from sun exposure for at least two weeks using sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and protective clothing when sun exposure is unavoidable.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?
After microneedling, patients may experience mild redness or swelling for one to two days with minimal discomfort. Patients typically see brighter, refreshed skin within two weeks of their first microneedling treatment. As microneedling stimulates new collagen production, patients will see continued enhancements for four to six weeks as collagen production increases.
We usually recommend three to five sessions to achieve the desired results. Results are typically visible four to six weeks after the final session. Dr. Rostan may recommend annual maintenance treatments, proper skincare, and daily sun protection to sustain your results.
