What Is Tixel?
Tixel is an advanced treatment device that uses a titanium tip to deliver controlled thermal energy to the skin, which stimulates collagen production and encourages skin rejuvenation. It is often compared to laser treatments and microneedling, but it provides an approach with less downtime. As Tixel stimulates collagen and elastin production, it enhances the skin’s appearance and improves overall health, texture, tone, and reduces signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.
When injected into carefully planned locations, Botox relaxes the muscles that are responsible for deep lines and wrinkles, diminishing their appearance. A cosmetically significant effect of botox along the brow and around the eyes is raising the brown and giving a more youthful, open eye appearance and diminishing loose skin on the upper eyelid. There are many other positive effects of botox: lifting lower face and jowls, reshaping lower face, reducing gummy smile, soften lip lines, improve skin texture, and even improve mood!
This simple, quick in-office procedure gives patients renewed confidence and a refreshed appearance with no downtime.
How Does Tixel Work?
Tixel delivers controlled heat energy through a sterile metal tip made of copper, gold, and titanium. This tip, heated to approximately 400ºC (similar to a CO₂ laser), gently contacts the skin using a matrix of tiny, pyramid-shaped pins.
Microchannel Therapy:
These microzones stimulate collagen production by precisely wounding the skin surface—without puncturing it, and create microchannels that enhance the delivery of topical medications (LADD), such as:
- Tranexamic acid (for melasma)
- Topical steroids or 5-Fluorouracil (for scarring)
- Aminolevulinic acid (for sun damage and precancers)
- Botox (for conditions like hyperhidrosis or rosacea)
Tixel Benefits
With minimal downtime and discomfort, Tixel treatments are safe for any skin tone and type and can deliver versatile benefits, including:
- Improved skin texture and tone
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
- Decreased appearance of acne scars and pigmentation
- Increased skin firmness
- Better skin hydration and radiance
Tixel can rejuvenate and improve the appearance of:
- Lax skin
- Facial skin, neck, and décolletage
- Acne and acne scarring
- Lines and wrinkles
- Eye lift, for crepey skin around the eye area
- Mild stretch marks
How Does Tixel Fit into a Skincare Routine?
Your skincare process should evolve with age and your skin’s changing needs. As such, it’s important to reevaluate the procedures and products you choose and change your lifestyle habits, including limiting sun exposure. At Charlotte Skin & Laser, we use versatile Tixel treatments to improve skin texture, enhance collagen production, and minimize signs of aging.

Am I a Candidate for Tixel?
Most people considering Tixel skin rejuvenating treatments want to improve their skin’s appearance to address concerns like the signs of aging, skin tone concerns, sun damage, acne scars, or uneven texture. These candidates want non-invasive treatments that enhance their overall appearance with minimal discomfort and downtime. Tixel can be used on all skin types, including darker skin tones.
We recommend that candidates be at least 18, in good health, and understand the risks and benefits. Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have active skin conditions may not be candidates.

What to Expect During Your Charlotte, NC Tixel Treatment
Typically, Tixel treatments are simple, quick in-office procedures that are well-tolerated. Once you arrive at the office, you will be taken to a treatment room to meet with your provider to review your treatment details. Before beginning your Tixel treatment, your Charlotte dermatologist will cleanse the area and may treat your skin with a topical anesthetic to minimize your discomfort.
We will guide the heated Tixel device over the treatment area, delivering short bursts of heat energy without damaging the skin’s deep tissues. This treatment stimulates collagen production to tighten skin. Most patients find the treatment comfortable, but may experience warmth and tingling. Depending on the size of the treatment area, Tixel procedures typically take 30 to 60 minutes.
What to Expect After Your Tixel Treatment
Depending on the extent of your Tixel procedure, you can expect minimal downtime. Immediately following your Tixel skin rejuvenation treatment, your skin may feel warm, tight, and slightly red and swollen, which should resolve within 24 to 72 hours. Dr. Rostan may recommend over-the-counter pain medications or cold compresses to alleviate discomfort.
It’s important to thoroughly follow all aftercare instructions after your Tixel treatment, including:
- Avoid harsh products: For 24 to 48 hours to seven days, avoid retinols, Vitamin C, glycolic acids, and exfoliants.
- Sun Protection: Apply SPF 50 sunscreen, wear wide-brimmed hats and glasses, and limit sun exposure for two weeks to three months.
- Moisturize: Use a fragrance-free moisturizer every six hours.
- Moisturize: Use a fragrance-free moisturizer every six hours.
- Gentle cleansing: Use a mild cleanser like Cetaphil twice daily.
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water to aid healing.
- Keep the Treated Area Clean: Avoid touching the treated area and do not pick any crusts to minimize infection.
Dr. Rostan will direct you when to continue your regular skincare routine and when to schedule your next treatments. Most patients will see the best results after three to five treatments scheduled four to six weeks apart, with maintenance appointments every six to 12 months.
