Summer is right around the corner; you can sense the anticipation in every warm breeze on your skin and in every grain of pollen covering your car. Even more exciting is the concept of spending time with real people in real places wearing clothes that aren’t your pajamas. That being said, you want to look your best when that time comes. But if you’re worried about your appearance, especially when it comes to your skin, you should make an appointment with Charlotte Skin & Laser to feel confidently “summer ready.”

Dr. Elizabeth Rostan attended Chapel Hill for undergrad and medical school and then finished a fellowship in cosmetic and laser surgery in San Diego before moving to the Queen City and opening Charlotte Skin & Laser in 2001. She started small — her mother was the receptionist at the very beginning — but her reputation quickly grew and soon she was seeing, along with her locals, patients from Asheville, Greenville, Spartanburg, Columbia, and even Virginia. In 2018, the practice completed a large renovation and expansion, creating the two-floor, 11,000-square-foot facility that the (now) 25 employees inhabit today.

Charlotte Skin & Laser offers all the medical and cosmetic procedures. Anti-aging treatments, body contouring/sculpting, non-surgical skin tightening, laser hair removal, fillers, and even spa facials are routine procedures, along with traditional medical services like mole removal, skin cancer scans, and treatments for skin conditions like acne, rosacea, and eczema. “Our motto is ‘We help you look and feel your best,’” explains Dr. Rostan. “We strive to achieve this with every patient encounter — cosmetic and medical. We use our knowledge, skill, and experience to guide patients through their dermatologic and cosmetic care over their lifetimes.”

Their most popular services are geared toward anti-aging, and their customized, boutique approach allows patients to maintain a life-long strategy. “I want my patients to have healthy and gorgeous skin throughout life’s milestones,” Dr. Rostan declares. “This means treatments and skincare to help fight and prevent the changes that occur with sun exposure and aging. Laser, light, and energy skin treatments correct wrinkles and spots and stimulate collagen; we can combine multiple modalities in the same session.” Injectables — Botox and fillers — are also in demand and, combined with energy treatments, are extremely successful at reversing signs of aging. And various body contouring treatments, such as CoolSculpting and even in-office liposuction, have made many patients more confident in their appearance.

Dr. Mary Ellen Luchetti joined Dr. Rostan in 2020, adding significant expertise to an already accomplished practice. Board-certified in dermatology and certified in integrative medicine for dermatology, she helps patients find natural remedies for their skin problems in combination with traditional treatments. As Dr. Rostan shifts her focus to the high demand for cosmetic procedures, Dr. Luchetti has become the medical expert, but each assists the other with a team approach as needed. “I am so excited to have Dr. Luchetti at Charlotte Skin & Laser,” Dr. Rostan says. “My cosmetic practice is so busy, and Dr. Luchetti brings over 30 years of medical experience as well as incredible knowledge and a fun bedside manner. She shares my passion for, and dedication to, finding the best solutions for our patients.”

As May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and summer is quickly approaching, both doctors are encouraging patients to protect themselves from sun exposure. Over 3.5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the U.S., and one-in-five Americans can expect to develop skin cancer in their lifetime. According to Dr. Rostan, “The safest way to protect your skin is to not get in the sun, but there are great sunscreens as well as amazing sun protective shirts and hats that provide consistent, easy-to-use sun protection.”

At all times, but especially as you come out of quarantine, Drs. Rostan and Luchetti and the entire staff at Charlotte Skin & Laser are dedicated to making you look and feel your best. “We stay up-to-date with the most innovative and evolving treatments and pride ourselves on our training and expertise.” In other words, they will make your complexion dewy and your skin glow. But ditching the pajama pants is on you.
