- Don’t consume alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before your appointment, as it can increase bleeding and bruising risks.
- Smoking can negatively affect your blepharoplasty results; avoid smoking, vaping, and all nicotine products for at least 48 hours before your appointment.
- Use gentle skincare products and avoid products that contain retinol, vitamin A, or other acids.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

- Lower Eyelids: Incisions are usually made on the inside of the lid (transconjunctival), so there are no visible scars or sutures.
- Sutures: Tiny sutures are used to close incisions and are removed after 6 to 7 days.
What to Expect After Your Blepharoplasty Treatment
Immediately following your blepharoplasty procedure, you may experience mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Other effects may include light sensitivity, dry eyes, tearing, or blurred vision. These effects gradually resolve within a month. Dr. Rostan may recommend over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol to alleviate any discomfort.
Following eyelid surgery, Dr. Rostan will provide thorough instructions. It’s important to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least two weeks, or until Dr. Rostan clears you. Protect your skin from sun exposure for at least two weeks using sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and protective clothing when sun exposure is unavoidable.
To ensure optimal recovery and minimize swelling and bruising, keep your head elevated while resting and:
- Avoid wearing contact lenses until your incisions have healed
- Limit screentime, including TV, reading, or using a computer, tablet, or phone
- Wear dark sunglasses when excess sun exposure is unavoidable
